How much did we spent for 7 nights in northern Italy

The whole trip started by looking for cheap plane tickets to a place we had never visited before. The destination was established when I bought the Cluj (Romania) – Treviso (Venice) tickets and Rome – Cluj for return with 20 euros/ person. This way we have a good route to travel in 8 days and we are not blocked in the same city everyday.

We divide the period so that we visit Venice (1 night accommodation – 25 euros/pers), Bologna (2 nights – 55 euros/pers), Florence (2 nights – 43 euros/pers), Rome (2 nights – 44 euros/pers). We searched accommodations on Airbnb or Booking, mainly apartments/studios – entire house. Location and price are also important. We prefer to be close to tourist attractions and shops, but at a price that we consider acceptable.

Another thing to consider when choosing several cities to visit is renting a car or searching for a transport. The first option is more useful when traveling in a slightly larger group. We chose the second option, with flixbus. It’s a more convenient option and you can stop at any time for a glass of wine without the having driving in mind. The 3 buses Venice – Bologna – Florence – Rome cost us 30 euros/pers. It is not expensive considering the good conditions, with telephone chargers for each seat, the possibility of choosing the place and besides you can follow the bus from the application and receive notifications regarding delays.

Some cities have tourist taxes, so in Florence we paid 8 euros per pers and in Rome 7 euros / pers.

In Venice we bought a boat tour on the nearby islands with 20 euros.

Entrance to a tower with beautiful view of Bologna – 3 euros / pers

Entrance to the Vatican Museum + Sistine Chapel 20 euros / pers

Generaly, we look for advice on the Internet from locals or people who have previously been to places that are not very well known but have a certain charm or from where the city looks beautiful. Just like that we found Terazza del Pincio or Giardino degli Aranci in Rome or Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. All for free.

Other money went to a dinner in the city: main course + beer + dessert 19 euros/p (Florence). Usually in every city we eat out at least once. Lunch or dinner. Other times we cook something fast at home – pasta – or take some local food / snacks on the way.

Besides all that we spent on the little things: magnets, souvenirs, cappuccino, grocery shopping, wine and gelato … lots of gelato.

All in all the trip cost us 430 euros/pers. We didn’t throw our money away, but at the same time if we craved or wanted something, we bought it.

Another thing that helped us was the fact that we have Revolut card (which we recommend wholeheartedly). Is free and very useful, both outside the country and inside it. We have set that normally when we pay with the card in our daily life, to round up the amount and the difference of money to be put in a special fund that we use for trips. For example, if you buy something from the supermarket for 3.52 euros, it is automatically rounded up to the next higher round number, in this case 4. 4 euros will be taken from the card, but 0.48 euros are actually transferred to the account we use for trips. This way you can save money for the next trip, every day, without too much struggle. Also for this purpose we set the addition of 10 euros a month to this account, when we get our paychecks.

Finally, with all the meetings, the trip cost us 2091 lei / pers. We didn’t throw our money away, but at the same time if we wanted or wanted something, we bought it.
